Our group was focused, relaxed, jovial, reverent.  I thought it was helpful that everyone was experienced with it. So noone came to the Friday talk-thru which was great because Tom and I went to the space to test the technology. It was a bust actually - nothing worked.  Tom then worked on it at home that night and we were good to go Saturday.  Tom gave a lot of his time to this project. I asked Rachel Schwartz to make your famous watermelon with lime and mint which she did so well.  People really liked it.

Though only 10 people said they were coming, 22 people showed up:
Michaela Wood, Rachel Schwartz, Neige Christenson, Amii Legendre, Christie Svane, Kristen Timchak, Shelley Etkin, Gary Kuntz, Kelsey Hobbs (new Earthdance staff), Moti Zemelman, Shayna Chandelle Hesselgrave, Nina Smolyar, Dave Carrier, Phil Shinnick, Kelly Bitov, Rythea Lee, Tom Murray, Hilary Lake, Brando Brandes, Stephen Yoshen, Patrick Crowley, Torielle Lee.

I felt a good sense of group which included a few group “milling” migrations and grazing periods.  The space was beautiful and I think the subtle presence of the Shintaido vibe fed what we were doing.  People really spent time with/danced with Torielle, particularly Christie and Shayna and many others - Rythea and I didn't hold her much!

I enjoyed feeling the other 70+ sites.  We mapped out the walls with locations and info quite a bit so people were oriented.  People went over to look at everything on the walls a fair amount.  I made a specific glyph Global Underscore map for us with a stick figure with 2 sets of those curved parentheses-like lines that signify movement in comics - for the 2 stands.  We were facing almost the same direction both times (our 2 places being Buffalo and Chicago).  So the technology piece was about 5-10% of my experience during the U'S but it took about 75% of total time in preparations.  I still enjoyed it.  When the video projection (we did this - thanks to Saliq's projector!) was on the UK (it could only be on one place at a time) a large frozen image of Nancy lasted for a while in this powerful sassy position - for me it was a cross between a superhero and Saturday Night Fever!  Nancy and Mike in UK and the NYC folks and our 2 stand locations got their own MAP on the wall along with the regional maps of locations.

For a week before the GUS the temperatures here were very high.  Luckily it had lessened a bit for that Saturday.  What was amazing was that right after the final resolution, there was huge thunder crack and then it started pouring.  It felt like we had done a rain dance!  So soon enough people were frolicking outside in the rain in all sorts of dress and undress.  It was quite a celebration!

I felt a deep contentment in the room at the sharing.  The group was quite lovely together.

Hola:

Have you ever fed a lover with just your hands”…

Global Underscore at Stockholm 2012 from Yolanda Alonso Bothen on Vimeo.
Underscore with 82 people. All levels of contact improvisation.
A bit rainy day after a wonderful Midsummer celebration in the context of the festival.

A huge 82 people ring to start and end with. We are on a big stage and have 2 satellite rooms to play with. One facing the East,  the other the West.

We have been dancing from Tuesday at NIM (Nordic Impro Meeting).  Five days of workshops, Labs, Jams, parties at night, walking, bathing in the lake and improvising.
People are enthusiastic but tired also. Everyone want to be at the Global Underscore event. Even some babies.

We have an special button "make a sign". That's the material you see on the video we are sending the link (http://vimeo.com/44671916). We chose not to have pictures from the dancing.
We play bells 10 times totally to synchronize everyone, with the small dances and other moments we considered important.

We ate fruits during the sharing.
During the sharing, someone comes to the center of the circle and lies on the floor. Another person goes around the circle and watch every person on the face. Some are not happy with the election of the three spaces, others are  happy and felt it was very organic. The small dances were done on the stage, in the very same room for everyone. Felt essential to be together then. Someone said she felt the “energy wind” behind and crossing her, during the opening small dance. It was probably from Moscow and every other sites “behind”.

Someone says, in the sharing, that many, if not all, of the themes of the workshops or labs from the previous 5 days could be seen during the Underscore.
The Underscore as a reflection of the whole NIM.

Yolanda, Myriam, and 80 wonderful participants.

Global Underscore Arenys de Mar, Barcelona Harvest

Meeting for lunch with a very dear friend who just came back from a half year stay in
Peru, so the lunch extended into the no-hours zone (or how to call this feeling of loosing
the usual time notion) enjoying food, giving each other updates on family and story
from both sides of the world. As I hoped to meet a least one person who knows about
the underscore to involve a bit in a little dance, I’m very happy that Anna happens to be
the one. Even if the dance will be short, as she’s working on the market today.
Realizing at the end the “clocktime” I’m rushing home for the last preparations in the
room I’ll start the Underscore: pin the maps on the wall, direction and places to face.
Almost there! Breathing deeply, entering in my inner space and looking forward
to “meet” the dancers from Spazioseme in my first standing. Arezzo arrivo! Facing
Italy, Arezzo- perceiving almost immediately a warm flow over the whole front side
of my body. Receiving this lovely embracing as a welcome gift and expanding it at the
same time back to Arezzo and the dancers in Spazioseme. Back and forward, back and
forward …

Going outside! Staying secretly in my dance bounding with the earth on every step
as I’m circulating through de Riera, the main street of Arenys, which happens to
be “decorated” all the way down with stalls. Anna’s placing the jewelry she’s selling on
her stall. It’s still early and no client around, so I take the chance to get her into to dance
for a while.
All kinds of delicious smells salty, spicy, fruity, cured, and flowery gracing though
my nostrils and creating tiny dances there. It’s a special Solstice Market! I’m a bit
overwhelmed with the countless different smells of all kind of cheese, sausages, sweets
I’m perceiving in a very short time space, but enjoying it as all my body, and not only
the noise hair would dance through theme.
I’m wondering what will happen if I meet somebody known, who doesn’t know that I’m
actually in the Underscore. How will be my reactions? Will I be able to keep staying
with it?
Finally arriving at the beach. Lots of people! An acquaintance standing up from here
towel to say hello. I’m approaching to exchange some words and feeling very thankful
that I can really do it without loosing the inner state. My body leads me to the sea,
touching the water and going back home for the final stand.

Final stand, facing West Istanbul, Turkey: Feeling again a warm “shower” over my
front side which fills my whole body and soul with love. Smiling inside out!

Very slow disengagement from the whole pattern (but a part of me feels like staying a
while more with all the dancers around the world of the global underscore in rocking
hug)

Thank you all for this wonderfully deep exchange and experience!

Kingston, Jamaica Harvest!

So I didn't bump into any dance friends on Saturday. Woke up early after a chaotic night. Had a small dance while my other half was sleeping. And I felt REALLY out of sorts and unsteady. I'm always surprised when the "simplest" physical activity (like plies at ballet barre) can be hyper-emotional for me. Anyway, after a few moments of freaking out in my emotional body it settled in that RIGHT! I'm caught/held/grounded, and in the same way I've leaned to trust my physical intelligence in my dancing...maybe I can trust my other intelligences to weather the transitions I'm making outside my dance life. Or trust them  even a little bit deeper. That was nice. I need those reminders.
So then on Monday, I ventured forth to teach some Contact Improvisation. I'd done only a couple sessions with this group, and was wondering if I could get them to a place where they'd taste the possibilities of the work. Although it wasn't on the day of Global Underscore, I feel like that last class was a particularly productive harvest...and another reminder of what's possible locally through dance/C.I./sharing. Onwards we go...
